Paphos, in the context of the event « European Capital of Culture for 2017 » hosts a collective work by 70 artists selected by the Salon d’Automne together with 30 Cypriot artists (20 Greek Cypriots and 10 Turkish Cypriots for a symbolic exhibition.
IN ART, NO BORDER !
The theme of this exhibition is “the diptych”. This theme symbolises the reconciliation of the two parts that constitute the island. The only constraint imposed to artists was the format of art works. They had to present a vertical diptych or, for the sculpture, an artwork with two complementary elements integrated or dissociated.
The reason of this format is the political situation of Cyprus separated in two and with the hope of an upcoming reunification.
This unique artistic event is supported by the French Institute & Embassy and the Republic of Cyprus.
In 2017, Michèle Ansermet Papadopoulos, painter and member of the Salon d’Automne, French resident in Pafos - Cyprus, married to a Cypriot citizen, is at the origin of this very highly symbolic exhibition within the framework of the international demonstration "Paphos, European Capital of Culture 2017". For 2 years, she worked relentlessly to convince the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus and the French Institute of Nicosia of the legitimacy of the creation of this exhibition. Gathering 70 artists of the Salon d’Automne, joining 30 Cypriot artists of merged Greek and Turkish origins. The success of this event is widely due to her generous convictions and to her unwavering determination. She deserves to be deeply thanked for this important artistic exhibition.
